Jordan launches first cube satellite JY1

HRH Crown Prince Hussein has announced the launch on December 3 of the first Jordanian cube satellite, JY1, from California into space.

As reported by Jordan Times, the Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) also said in a statement that the CubeSat carrying the name JY1-SAT was launched in memory of His Majesty the late King Hussein, named after His Majesty’s radio call sign: JY1.

The CubeSat, part of CPF’s Masar Initiative, will orbit the earth at a distance of 600 kilometres. The launch of the CubeSat  aims at implementing educational research objectives.

The satellite was designed and built by 18 engineering students, with support from five academics and consultants, in various engineering fields, from Jordanian universities.

The CPF said the Masar team will launch a mobile application that will enable users to track the Jordanian mini satellite and communicate with it.
