Her Excellency Mrs. Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab
Minister of State for Information Affairs

Her Excellency, Mrs. Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab is Bahrain’s Minister of State for Information Affairs and the Official Spokesperson for the Bahraini government. She currently holds the prestigious role of Vice President of Higher Authority for Media and Communications and is a Member of the Board of Trustees at the Isa Cultural Center. She holds a Bachelor degree in Economics from Beirut Arab University as well as a diploma in communication management and accounting. Mrs. Sameera Rajab was formerly a columnist and political analyst. She was a member of the Shura Council from 2006-2012. She also plays other significant roles as Member of the General Secretariat of the Arab National Congress and Member of the Islamic National Conference in Beirut.

Fahad Mohammed Al Sukait
Chief Executive Officer, Rotana Group and Alarab News Channel

A highly experienced professional with extensive experience of the media industry, Mr. Fahad Mohammed Al Sukait is the CEO of Rotana Group and Alarab News Channel, roles he has held since July 2010.
Prior to joining Rotana Media Group, Mr. Fahad Al Sukait worked had a long successful career in Procter & Gamble for over 20 years, during which he lead many key projects in the region.
Mr. Al Sukait received his B.S. in Industrial Management from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in May 1985.
During his time with Rotana Group, he has led the company in a number of landmark restructuring projects that have not only reshaped the company but also the media industry in the Arab world. Most significant is his leadership of negotiations with NewsCorp which resulted in the Murdoch-owned media conglomerate taking a minority stake. Mr. Al Sukait is also key driver for the introduction of a ‘people meter’ project in the MENA region which is helping TV channels better understand viewing habits.

Aside from his day-to-day duties across Rotana’s TV, movie and audio output, he is also charged with the launch of Alarab News Chanel later in 2014.
David Butorac
Chief Executive Officer, OSN

An international television industry veteran, David Butorac brings a wealth of experience to OSN gained over a -year career in some of the world's most successful broadcasting and multi-channel Television companies. His career to date has included the positions of Head of Operations and Station Manager at BSkyB, Group Chief Operating Officer at Astro, Malaysia's largest broadcasting and cross-media company, as well as President at the News Corporation's Star TV in Hong Kong. Prior to joining OSN, David was Managing Director of WIN Corporation, Australia's largest regional cross-media company. He commenced as CEO at OSN in October 2010

David was included in the inaugural Advance Australia list of the 100 most influential Australians living outside the country and was named Media and Marketing Business Leader of the Year at the 2012 Gulf Business Industry Awards. He also received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Broadcast at the 2013 BroadcastPro Middle East Summit and Awards.

Nart Bouran
Head, Sky News Arabia

Nart is responsible for safeguarding the Sky News standard of impartial and independent world-class news reporting and achieving the company’s business objectives.

Nart graduated from Syracuse University (New York) in 1989 with a BA in International Relations and specialisation in International Law. Launching his career in television journalism in 1990 as a video journalist in the Middle East covering some of the biggest news stories of the early 1990's such as Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Algeria, Yemen, Israel and the Palestinian territories and many others.  He then moved to London in 1995 where he became the Middle East and Africa Regional Editor at Reuters Television.

In 2000, Nart relocated to Jordan, his native country, when he was presented with the opportunity to become the Director General of the National Broadcaster, Jordan Radio and Television Corporation (JRTVC), during which he received the Kingdoms Medal of Honour from King Abdullah II for his role in establishing television facilities during the Arab Summit in 2001 in Amman.  In 2002, he joined Abu Dhabi TV as Director of News where he spearheaded their acclaimed coverage of the war in Iraq in 2003.  In 2006 Nart re-joined the Reuters News Agency where he had global responsible for video products and services on the World News Service of Reuters News Agency.

Sanjay Raina
General Manager, FOX International Channels
Middle East

Sanjay Raina took charge as General Manager of Fox International Channels Middle East FZ-LLC from June 2014. He oversees the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan as part of his remit.

Raina is responsible for driving growth in the region, through initiatives such as widening Fox International's Pay TV operation, expanding into new markets, and developing the new sales function of FOX International Channels Middle East, which include FOX Movies, FOX, and National Geographic Abu Dhabi. He joined FOX with a rich history in the broadcast industry, with specialties in product strategy, content planning, and broadcast operations. Prior to joining FOX International Channels, he served as COO at Ten Sports.

Raina has a long history in television with more than 20 years of experience in the Entertainment, Direct to Home (DTH), Television & Media industries. He has worked with leading companies such as Philips India Limited, Columbia Tristar Films, Discovery Communications, Hindustan Times Limited and Times Now. Prior to joining Ten, Raina served as Senior Vice President of Marketing at Astro Television, Malaysia, where he was responsible for new channel rollouts, programming, innovation, interactivity and on-air promos.

Ben Kinealy
CEO, Intigral

As CEO of Intigral, Ben Kinealy is responsible for developing and implementing a strong vision and strategy to deliver great value to STC, develop market leading products and services, and solidify Intigral’s position across the MENA region.

Prior to being appointed CEO in December 2013, Ben ran the IPT and OTT division, during which he oversaw content, product, strategy and P&L, with a focus on supplying IPTV content (free and paid linear channels, and video on demand) to Intigral’s clients - to be delivered over their IPTV Multicast networks and IPTV STB.

Ben is an experienced media executive with more than 12 years of new media executive leadership, following an earlier career in traditional media environments. His experience encompasses leading roles in both telecommunications and media organizations. Ben has strong strategic marketing and product management and development skills, backed by a solid understanding of the key new media technologies.

Prior to joining Intigral, Ben worked at Telstra, Australia’s largest Telco, as the Director of IPTV and Pay TV. In his role, he and his team launched a range of OTT IPTV services to the Australian market, including the ‘T-Box’, Australia’s first Hybrid STB and largest IPTV service, and a range of Live TV and VOD applications across Smart TV’s, tablets and computers. He also managed the resell of Australia’s largest Pay TV network Foxtel bundled with Telstra’s services.

Previously in his career, Ben introduced over 12 channels to the Mobile TV service, and implemented effective quality improvements for live and off line encoding. He was also a valued advisor on technology and network planning associated with Mobile TV and streaming. He also played a key role in carrying negotiations for studio and network deals and developed and produced all aspects of content on the network from Pay TV, Video on Demand, Interactive TV to Promotions Channels and Broadband Portals.

Ziad Kebbi
CEO, Maximum Media and Talpa Middle East

In September 2014, Ziad Kebbi established a new production company “Maximum Media’ aimed at producing content of all genres and across all platforms for Arabic speaking audiences.
Ziad Kebbi was President of Sony Pictures Television Arabia (SPTA) from September 2010 to August 2014. He managed SPTA’s overall regional operations within the Arab world, which included television and digital content production, and the development of new entertainment products, services and technologies. Under his tenure at SPTA, he brokered a deal with Talpa Global to obtain exclusive production rights to their format catalogue in the Arab world. Talpa is the company behind global hits as The Voice, I love my Country and Utopia.
Prior to joining SPT, Kebbi was Managing Director of Endemol Middle East up to 2010. He served as Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Elements TV (2004 – 2007) prior to that. Kebbi has more than 15 years of experience dealing with various producers in North America and Europe; and extensive knowledge of the Middle East television scene with broad contacts among various broadcasters.

He helped establish Endemol Middle East in 2007, where he served as Managing Director 2007-2010. While there, he established solid production bases in Beirut and Cairo with regional offices based in Dubai. He sold and produced more than 24 formats in the first two years of the operation; including Fear Factor Extreme (Hayat TV Egypt); Deal or no Deal (Hayat TV Egypt); Guesstimation (Abu Dhabi TV); Ton of Cash (Abu Dhabi TV); Male/Female (Talk show MBC) and The Manager (Original Format – Reality Talent show – Rotana).

Kebbi is a graduate of the American University of Beirut. He was raised in Beirut and is fluent in Arabic, English and French.

Fadi Ismail
Director of Drama Production and Distribution, MBC Group

Over 22 years of experience in news, current affairs, documentaries and drama. Formerly, part of management launch team for Al Arabiya news channel; Assistant Director, News and International Operations; Producer and Reporter, special events, documentaries, telethons, live political chat shows. Advised different existing channel revamping projects as well as launching new channels. Since 2002, in my current position as GM of O3 Productions, I am responsible for selecting, buying and distributing annually hundreds of hours of Turkish, Indian, Korean and other drama content, adapting scripted long telenovella formats such as Matloub Rijal, Ruby and al Muntakem, and producing local pan-Arab as well as regional drama series in-house. Executive Producer of "Omar", the biggest Arab Historical Epic drama ever produced.

Khulud Abu Homos
Executive VP of Programming & Creative Services, OSN

Khulud has 21 years of experience in programming, production and on-air promotions.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Prior to the formation of OSN, she was the Senior VP of Western Channels and Creative Services at Orbit Communications.

Khulud was appointed in July 2009 as Senior VP of Programming and Creative Services of OSN. She has overall responsibility for OSN’s portfolio of Western and Arabic entertainment across 14 premium movie channels and six general entertainment channels. Khulud began her career as a News Reporter at NBC network during the Gulf War in 1990.

Mohammad Shihadah
CEO, AppTek

Mohammad Shihadah is the CEO of AppTek LLC, a pioneer in automatic speech recognition and machine translation technology in the Washington D.C. area. Recently, he sold the machine translation business to eBay, Inc.  With over 35 years of experience in human language technologies, Mr. Shihadah continues to lead AppTek LLC in developing its speech technologies and applying them into mainstream media for companies such as MBC’s Al Arabiya and NBC Universal. He is also the Founder and Chairman of iDenTV and its subsidiaries, Tivvy and Aurora, companies that focus on second-screen mobile applications and advertisement detection systems, respectively.

Dominic Baillie
Chief Technical Officer, Sky News Arabia 

Dominic is responsible for the systems, engineering, development and technical operations of Sky News Arabia. In a career spanning more than 15 years, Dominic has gained unique insight into the many facets of technology that power today’s world of broadcast and content. He has become known for his passion for new technology, a drive to 'make it better' and refusal to accept failure. These values and a philosophy of innovation have led to the many successes of his team, notably the IBC Innovation Award for Content Management in Amsterdam this year.

Starting his career with Sony as a Project Engineer, he was responsible for designing and delivering networked systems for broadcasters around the world including this region’s first file-based system at Showtime in Dubai. He continued managing software-based projects for Harris before moving to the region in 2007. As Chief Engineer at Showtime, Dominic oversaw the build of technical facilities for coverage of the English Premier League as well as the launch of the region’s first HD channel. In 2009, Dominic joined Ten Sports as VP of Engineering, Operations and MIS overseeing the migration to MPEG4 and introduction of live web streaming before becoming Chief Technology Officer.

Dominic joined Sky News Arabia in 2011.

Chris Anning
Senior Project Manager, Al Arab news channel, Bahrain

Before coming to the Middle East, Chris was CTO at Channel 5 in the UK for seven-and-a-half years, providing the technology to migrate the station into a multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-definition network. He joined Sony PSMEA as Programme Manager and was responsible for the technical fit-out and service migration of Oman TV into an HD file-based workflow facility in both Muscat and Salalah. Al Jazeera then appointed him as Acting Director of Broadcast, where he provided fast-track technology to launch Al Jazeera Arabic HD. Since then, he was selected to join Al Arab in Bahrain as the Project Manager of this new and exciting news channel.

Dr. Naser Refaat
Technologist & Business Strategies Executive, Rotana Media Group

Dr. Naser Refaat presently heads the technology operations at Rotana Media Group and is responsible for leading several of the company’s recent infrastructure and HD migration projects. He is a senior executive and technologist with 29+ years in business management and operations with expertise in various industries including telecommunications, broadcast and multimedia. His specialties include strategising, executive business development, investments and strategy studies, overall executive operation assessment and process optimisation for existing and new establishments primarily within the TV industry (content creation, technical system integration & TV operation), Digital Media (Establishment & distribution), Multimedia (Smart homes & business parks), Satellite (Distribution and optimisation) and Real estate (Development & investment).

Dr. Naser has been with Rotana Media Group since September 2007. Prior to that, he served as a Member on the board of Director for Cost Plus Consultancy Holdings and held various senior roles at Al Aqariya Media Group, Grand Media Group, and Sony Broadcast and Professional Corp.

Robert Taylor
Programme Manager for Al Jazeera Workplace Transformation Project, Al Jazeera

Robert Taylor is currently the Programme Manager for Al Jazeera’s Workplace Transformation (AJWT) project in Doha. AJWT is a major initiative within Al Jazeera Media Network to modernise all aspects of its global news operations for greater efficiency and dynamic business growth. The project is particularly focused on providing a technology platform to see Al Jazeera in to the next decade of broadcasting. For three decades, Taylor has been deploying emerging technologies in some of largest broadcast projects across the globe. He has often been asked to deliver “the next big thing”, whilst balancing the business vs. technology vs. investment triangle.

Stephen Smith
CTO - Cloud, Imagine Communications

Stephen Smith is the CTO for Cloud at Imagine Communications, where he leads the transformation of solutions to support media and entertainment markets in a future defined by IP, software, virtualization and cloud. Previously, Smith was the Executive Director of Media Systems at Starz Entertainment in Colorado - USA, where he was responsible for the technology, implementation & operation of their Media Asset Management and Content Processing platforms. With 20+ years in the industry Stephen has extensive experience in architecting, deploying, owning and operating complex media processing, origination and distributions systems. 

Lina Matta
Senior Channel Manager MBC 2, MBC 4, MBC Max & MBC Variety 

As Senior Channel Manager for MBC 2, 4, Max and Variety, Lina Matta coordinates the programming strategy and vision of the channels as well as works on achieving the ratings and financial targets set. Prior to MBC, Lina was a media consultant for DMI, where she played a primary role in developing and implementing the re-branding of Dubai One, while managing content acquisition and programming and overseeing in-house and outsourced productions.

Lina is also the co-founder of Brown Hats Productions, a New York based independent production company. Among its projects are two award-winning documentaries “Running for Bogota” and “Prison Lullabies”; Titlepage.tv, the first-ever American online literary talkshow; and the annual NY-based film series, ANA Contemporary Arab Cinema, that highlights award-winning films by Arab directors.

Prior to BHP, Lina spent nearly a decade as a TV Director and Producer in Washington, D.C., developing and distributing news magazine shows and documentaries to the burgeoning pan-Arab satellite TV market.

Moustapha Bekheet
Head of Mazika

Moustapha Bekheet is the Head of Mazika at ARPU Plus, a leading provider of Value Added Services and Platform Solutions in North Africa, Middle East and Europe and an OT Ventures subsidiary fully owned by Orascom Telecom. In his current capacity, Moustapha Bekheet is responsible for managing creative content of online music platform Mazika. He is also involved in developing new VAS products, websites, smart applications and YouTube channels from conception, design, and integration to execution and launch. Being part of the evolution of Arabic digital media in the past 13 years from Satellite TV Channels, Interactive TV, FM Radios, VAS, Mobile Portals, to online media services; Moustapha has a unique passion for bringing a seamless music experience to the Arab listener.

Prior to his work at ARPU Plus, Moustapha used to head New Media for Melody Entertainment being part of the team who built Melody FM Radio & TV channels as well as its VAS platforms for more than 10 years. He also founded Pan Arab Media Inc. Moustapha also holds an MBA in Project Management.

Mahesh Jaishankar
Vice President, datamena and broadcasting

In his position as the Vice President of datamena and Broadcasting at UAE integrated telecom service provider, du, Mahesh Jaishankar leads the business unit and P&L function of both divisions. His responsibilities include the development of a UAE-based carrier neutral hub, under the datamena initiative and in alliance with Equinix, tied in with content and satellite services under du’s broadcasting facilities.

Mahesh has more than 20 years of experience in the Telecom and IT industry in the Middle East and India. Throughout the years, he has successfully led strategy, business development, sales and marketing, and product management of a wide range of telecom products and services.

Mahesh holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications, and an MBA in Information Technology from the University of Leicester.

Roger Bolton
Executive VP of Special Projects in Compression, Ericsson

A senior member of the Ericsson Television EMEIA management team within Ericsson, Roger Bolton is the Executive Vice President of Special Projects in Compression. His role sees him working with major customers and markets to deliver optimal solutions that ensure Ericsson is able to meet the video compression and content delivery requirements of broadcasters and network operators around the world. To this end, Roger has been responsible for producing a number of business models and market entry strategies that have seen Ericsson lead the market in High Definition Television, IPTV, Satellite, Terrestrial Television and more recently 4KTV.

Prior to joining Ericsson, Roger managed the Internet business solutions division of APW. He also spent several years in a number of sales and marketing roles at De La Rue. Roger has a First Class Honours Degree in Electronics and Computing and also an MBA.

Paulo Ferreira
Head of Commercial Digital, OSN

With vast experience in OTT Video, IPTV, Mobile and Internet Content Service markets, Paulo Ferreira, Head of Commercial, Digital at OSN, brings with him strategic and operational capabilities to tap new markets and significantly increase market share.

At OSN, he played an instrumental role in launching a new OTT SVOD service called Go by OSN, available since May 2014 in 22 counties in the MENA region and featuring some of the best movies and TV series from Disney, ABC, Paramount and Sony Pictures in addition to a strong line-up of Arabic productions.

Having worked for renowned brands such as Siemens and BSkyB, he understands the need for continuous evolution in the development of new products and content. He has strong business and commercial know-how in establishing market positioning and keeping ahead of the competition. 

Paulo’s commitment to new and emerging markets is reflected in his personal investment in an OTT VOD start-up company, Acetrax AG. He grew the business in seven countries in Western Europe and was subsequently part of an acquisition by BSkyB.

Paulo moved to the MENA region in 2013 to work on OTT and IPTV, and joined OSN as Head of Commercial, Digital. He is a Computer and Electronics Engineer, and loves driving sports cars on track days.

His background and degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering enables him to engage effectively with technical and business teams, and in communicating and implementing a broader vision.

Samr Al Marzooqi
Manager, Dubai Film Market

Samr Al Marzooqi is the Manager of the Dubai Film Market, leading the development of the festival’s industry arm. Prior to taking the role, Samr led a successful career in the media industry spanning over 10 years with leading brands such as Dubai TV, Film Works, Arab Media Group/MTV Arabia and twofour54 Abu Dhabi. Fuelled by a passion for film, photography and television Samr has also written, produced and directed his own shorts.

Bassam Alasad
Chief Content Officer, Integracast

Bassam is an award-winning Director/Producer and a member of the Producers Guild of America. His most recent project has been working as Executive Producer on Al Batal Season 2 reality show, which is now being broadcast on FOX Movies. He is also working on his first feature film On the Edge after nine years of experience in this field on the commercial front. Bassam's Life for Rent was selected as recommended title at Dubai International Film Festival and was screened at the International Press Congress that was held in Amman 2013. He is presently working on developing original content and adapting international formats in conjunction with leading global players. Integracast is working in collaboration with several international studios to create digital content in both hybrid and interactive formats. Bassam is also involved in an initiative called ChloroFilms, with the aim of spreading the concept of green production and making our industry environmentally friendly.

Mark Errington
CEO, BroadStream Solutions

Mark’s career spans the media, software, telecommunications and video conferencing industries, ranging from start-ups through to MNCs. In 2004, Mark joined OASYS Automated Playout, leading the development and delivery of the multi-award winning integrated playout solutions, opening several global offices including in 2013, the formation of BroadStream Solutions that has acquired technologies such as OASYS and relocating the corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2014.

Following a number of product and business development roles at Cable and Wireless, he created a private telecoms investment portfolio, then went on to successfully build, develop and sell a VC-backed Teleconferencing Company. As the VP of Global Managed Services for Global Crossing, he had profit and loss and operational responsibility for the business unit servicing the telephony and data requirements of the UK Government, British Rail and the UK National Lottery operator.

In the media industry, he has operated a print data contribution network, a multi-channel playout centre, led the MBO of OASYS and now, as CEO of BroadStream, is delivering leading-edge playout and MAM software solutions.
