Harris Broadcast, in collaboration with ViewCast, a developer of industry-leading video streaming solutions, will transmit four TV channels with corresponding second-screen applications displayed on smartphones and tablet devices, as part of its demonstration platform at CABSAT.
As the number of internet-connected devices rapidly multiplies, so does consumer demand for over-the-top content delivery to connected TVs, set top boxes, tablets and smartphones. ViewCast supports this demand by enabling high-quality, cost-effective video streaming for broadcasters, service providers and enterprises to reach audiences anywhere in their homes, workplaces, or on the go.
Harris Broadcast, alongside ViewCast, will address this rapidly expanding market at CABSAT 2013 by demonstrating their technological capabilities through a selection of TV channels which will be running live from the show floor including documentary, sports and drama channels, plus a live show-floor feed. The architecture can support numerous viewing formats and the demonstration at CABSAT will run with Flash and HLS streaming to Apple devices. Attendees will be able to view the demo on iPads and iPhones on the show floor, as well as a Flash Player on a computer.
The demonstration will be supported by the Harris Broadcast Selenio media convergence platform, a next-generation, modular solution that presents an all-new approach to networking and signal processing. It will provide the multiplatform support by combining traditional baseband video and audio processing, compression and IP networking features all in a single, space-saving 3RU frame and enable full-featured multichannel video and audio processing, distribution and compression applications.
The number of people that own a tablet or smartphone device is quickly rising and were excited to be addressing this growing trend at CABSAT 2013, commented Said Bacho, vice president sales and service, Middle East and South Asia, Harris Broadcast. We look forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise on how to navigate this ever-changing landscape and demonstrating how our technology can help broadcasters provide quality content over multiple devices.
The demonstration, which can be integrated with a Harris broadcast end-to-end workflow process, will run on an IPTV transport stream. This provides a cost-effective, flexible solution for broadcasters while also reducing the amount of cabling and configuration required.
