New SOA to drive fast, flexible virtualization of IP-video infrastructure with minimal disruption to legacy systems
NEW YORK, NY, April 4, 2014 (Marketwired) Piksel, a global provider of video monetization software and services, today introduced the Piksel Palette a new services-oriented architecture (SOA) for the agile delivery of SaaS-based video applications. From ingest to play-out, the Piksel Palette ensures that media companies can quickly and reliably evolve existing systems and adapt to changes in the market.
Weve been a company of firsts in the online video space since before it was called the cloud. And over the last decade weve been an instrumental part of building several of the worlds leading OTT services including SkyGo and 4oD in the UK, OSN Play in the Middle East, and AT&T U-Verse here in the USA, said Kevin Joyce, Piksels Chief Commercial Officer.
But those heady days of being first-to-market with an over-the-top video service are, for the most part, over in established markets. Whats most important to content owners and aggregators today is evolving and future-proofing their legacy systems so that they can affordably and reliably keep pace with new innovations, devices, and customer requirements. No one wants to rip and replace at this stage of the game whats needed is to build on what you already have with sensible levels of new investment. The Piksel Palette is designed to do exactly that, Mr. Joyce said.
The Piksel Palette is comprised of a suite of independent, modular cloud-based services with standard APIs for integration with leading third-party vendors and popular applications. With focus on ingest and play-out integrations, the new Piksel SOA will cover user experience elements like discovery, personalization, social interactivity, and unified player applications; as well as core back-end solutions for content management and delivery to connected devices, cloud encoding, digital rights management, user analytics, and managed services.
The main benefit of the Piksel Palette model is to allow simultaneous use and easy mutual data exchange between applications and vendors without additional programming or heavy integration fees for updating functionality or making changes to the service, explained Mark Portu, Piksels Chief Product Officer. We believe that this will give operators the greatest combination of time to market, best of breed services, lowest operating costs, and a selection of business models that best fits their short- and long-term business objectives.
Piksel will be showcasing customer implementations including Liberty Globals Horizon.TV, BSkyBs SkyGo service, OSN Play and Channel 4s 4oD; as well as partner integrations with Civolution, ExMachina and Marlin DRM, that leverage the Piksel Palette SOA at The National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas, April 7-10, booth SU8905.
