What is your main role within the world of production?
I started as an animator and motion graphics designer in 1995. Then, I gradually fell in love with video, so I started editing and directing music videos and TV commercials.
In 2003 I co-founded production studio, Total ADV, in Serbia, which also gave me experience in finance and organisation.
Since 2009, I have been working with Talking Pictures, a production house in Bahrain, as a director and post-production manager. At times, I have to edit and colour correct on bigger projects and I keep up the morale by cracking jokes during long night hours!
What are you currently working on?
Currently, I am working on the pre-production of two TV commercials. One is for an up-and-coming soccer championship and the other is for a Government Institution. You will soon be able to view them on my Vimeo page.
What has been your most challenging experience in your career?
Well, to be honest it was when I first arrived in Bahrain in January 2009 to direct a TV commercial for Tamkeen, Bahrain’s Labour Fund. It was my first contact with the GCC world, culture and environment. I only had a short time for local pre-production and I experienced problems with the weather, when of course, we were shooting outside. It was very hectic, but also fun. I fell in love with Bahrain, so I decided to move here with my family.
How do you see the future of production in Bahrain?
Bahrain is recovering from some internal problems and it’s looking very positive now. It is a very small market in comparison to the UAE. At Talking Pictures, we work to try and keep up to date with technical progress regionally and globally. Considering the size of the market here and the needs of the clients, its all looking very positive.
Regarding Bahrain, the new Media city has plans to be built, with some big names from the world of media and broadcast coming to here. That will boost Bahrains production requirements.
Also, clients are more and more demanding now, so up-and-coming projects are becoming more and more interesting…..
Any technical highlights you wish to share from something you have recently been working on?
Recently, Talking Pictures bought a full RED Scarlet package plus full Zeiss Cp.2 package, with one RED Rocket card. Investing in a RED Rocket card has helped us to reduce the rendering times drastically when working with full resolution R3d files.
What is the best camera or production equipment on the market in your opinion?
I am a long time RED user, but I think that ARRI made a big impact with Alexa camera, and that they made a smooth and wise transition from being a main film camera supplier to being top in the digital world.
