The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP), claimed to be the oldest and most popular timed film-competition in the world will be coming back in Beirut this month. The winner of the Beirut contest will compete against the winners from 120 countries worldwide at the annual Filmapalooza event for the Best 48-hour film of the world title. The 15 best films of Filmapalooza will also be featured at Cannes 2014.
Beirut was the first city in the Middle East to host the 48-hour film project in 2011. The project now includes Dubai, Amman, and Cairo.
Teams of local filmmakers will be given only 48 hours to collaborate and make a film. The genres and elements will be announced just before the competition and the team members will be required to write, direct, shoot, and edit the entire film within a span of 48 hours. The competition is open to all with no age or nationality bar.
A meeting will be held on Friday, June 21at 6:00pm at AltCity in Hamra, Beirut to assign the genres and elements. All teams will get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, which must be included in their film.
The entries will have to be submitted by Sunday, June 23, 2013, 7:00pm. Late films will be accepted and screened, but they will not be nominated.
All films will be screened in the following week.
