For the first time, the production of five Jordanian cinematic feature film projects is supported.
The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) has revealed the selection of 24 cinematic projects that have been granted financial support by the Jordan Film Fund (JFF) in its ninth cycle for 2024.
An independent jury of experts from around the world reviewed the shortlist of 40 film projects in various categories, which were previously nominated by the pre-selection committee. The jury, consisting of: Egyptian writer and director Khaled El Hagar, Moroccan producer Lamia Chraibi, Mozambican producer Pedro Pimenta, French producer Magalie Armand, and Lebanese writer, director and editor Sabine Gemayel, recommended supporting 24 film projects.
Commenting on the submissions and selection process, the jury noted in its statement: “We thank The Royal Film Commission for their trust and hospitality. We were deeply impressed by the high quality of all projects, making the selection process tough. The passion of the filmmakers—producers, directors, and writers—was clear in their commitment to telling authentic and culturally relevant stories for Jordan and the MENA region. The projects spanned many genres, and tackled both heroic and underrepresented voices, all aiming to shed light on socio-cultural issues and regional conflicts. The Royal Film Commission’s ongoing support for local and regional talent is inspiring and crucial in establishing Jordan as a key player in the film industry.”
Mohannad Al-Bakri, the RFC’s Managing Director, said: “This year, the projects submitted to the Jordan Film Fund were distinguished by their efficiency and innovation, which is a tangible indication of the progress of the film industry in Jordan. For the first time, the production of five Jordanian cinematic feature film projects is supported. The number of recipients of the Fund’s support in this cycle is 49 producers, directors and writers, 29 of whom are female and 20 are male.”
