Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC), which previously reported to the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage (ADACH), will henceforth report to and be integrated with the Media Zone Authority Abu Dhabi.
The Media Zone Authority is the main governing body for the media in the UAE capital. All other media arms including ADFC, twofour54 and so on are licensed by the Media Zone Authority.
ADFC, which was launched by ADACH in 2009, will continue to promote Abu Dhabi as a production and filming location as well as support the development of Arabic media and entertainment content.
Speaking about the new structure, David Shepheard, director of Abu Dhabi Film Commission stated that the Film Commissions move to the Media Zone Authority is a natural progression in our continuing development to assist film making activities in the Emirate and to promote Abu Dhabi to the international film and TV community.
ADFC is based at twofour54s Khalifia Park campus.
It will attend the 64th Festival De Cannes 11-22 May 2011 and host the Abu Dhabi Pavilion at the International Village alongwith twofour54 and Abu Dhabi Film Festival. Nine shorts will be taken from the UAE to Cannes this year.
These include Al Seefah (The Beach) by Mohammed Al Marri; Mad Camel, an animation by Mohammad Ahmed Fikree; Beaten by Jake Trevaskis; Quiet Desperation by Akbar Farook; Leap of Faith by Amna Ehtesham; Island of Happiness by Nathalie Al Shami; Hayat Min Sakhar (Life of Stone) by Moath Bin Hafez; Ich War (I Was) by Mohammad Fathi and Perfect Living by Faisal Hashmi.
Abu Dhabi Film Commission has also selected four Emirati Filmmakers including Ahmed Arshi, Abdulla Al Kaabi, Abdelrahman Mohamed and Fadel Al Muhairi to join the delegation to Cannes. They will have special access to events, screenings and panels, as well as organised meetings with industry professionals.
