This year’s jury of the Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films brings together 71 film critics from 15 Arab nations.
Arab Cinema Center (ACC) and European Film Promotion (EFP) have announced the final list of nominations for the Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films.
This came after the jurors evaluated 24 nominated European films using ACC’s digital partner, Festival Scope. The list includes four films, which received the highest number of votes, and the winning film will be announced during an award ceremony that will take place during the 43rd Cairo International Film Festival.
The films include 107 Mothers by Peter Kerekes, Slovak Republic, I’m Your Man by Maria Schrader, Germany, Lamb by Valdimar Jóhannsson, Iceland and The Most Beautiful Boy In The World by Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri, Sweden
Speaking about the nominations, Ola Al-Sheikh, Film Critic and Manager of Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films, said: “We are now in the semi-final stage of the Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films, in which several quality films are competing, the thing that left us, the critics, in total confusion. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, this year features some prolific films, as if they want to bring us back to our normal life through assuring that the cinema will remain and continue.”
The Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films is a spin-off from the ACC’s now well-established Critics’ Awards to boost film diversity in the region and raise the interest of sales and industry for outstanding European films. This initiative also aims to cast light on the distinguished film critics from 15 Arab-speaking countries and their important role in opening up new perspectives and bridging cultural idiosyncrasies.
