'Pamfir' landed its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Caméra d’Or award
At the Cairo International Film Festival, Adolf El Assal’s production company Wady Films will compete with the film Pamfir, directed by Ukrainian director Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk.
The film will compete in the International Critics’ Week Competition at the Cairo International Film Festival.
The film festival is scheduled to take place from November 13 to 22, 2022.
Pamfir landed its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival where it was nominated for the Caméra d’Or award. The film received a number of awards such as the Palic Tower Award for Best Director and a Special Mention for Best Feature Film at the Palic Film Festival. Additionally, the film toured a number of prestigious film festivals including Athens International Film Festival, Santiago International Film Festival (SANFIC), Warsaw International Film Festival, Filmfest Hamburg, International Film Festival Karlovy Vary, and Raindance Film Festival.
Most recently, Wady Films competed with the short film Full Memory and the feature film Sharaf in the Festival du Film Arabe de Fameck in France. Full Memory toured 70 film festivals around the world. Additionally, Wady Films’s feature film Sawah had a very solid international film festival run with over 100 festival selections, reaping 34 awards and topping Netflix watching lists.
El Assal was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He spent his early life between the UAE, UK, France, and Luxembourg. In 2008, El Assal received his Bachelor’s degree in Media and Cultural Studies at Kingston University in the UK.
In 2011, he directed the short film La Fameuse Route, which took part in more than 20 film festivals around the world and received five awards. In 2012, he produced and directed his first feature film Les Fameus Gars, which he successfully distributed in French-speaking countries. El Assal’s second feature film Sawah had a strong international film festival run with over 100 festival selections, reaping 34 awards. His upcoming feature film Hooped is slated for 2023. El Assal has also directed five episodes of the Belgian comedy series Baraki.
El Assal is also a Berlinale Talents as well as an EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneur) and Screen Leaders Alumni.
