After several months of conjecture about whether Al Jazeera Sport (AJS) or Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) would win the broadcast rights to the English Premier League in the Middle East and North Africa, it looks like the scales have tipped in favour of AJS. We are still awaiting official comment from MP&Silva.
Previously, we had published that several of the Arab commentators from ADM had already shifted base to Qatar. Now, we hear that the well known English football commentator/presenter duo Andy Gray and Richard Keys will also be heading for Qatar soon.
Keys has officially tweeted: Al Jazeera announces exclusive live coverage of PL for Middle East and North Africa. Sundays will be super again. And weve got the real MNF (Monday Night Football).
Gray and Keys are also well known for having made sexist remarks about the first female linesman in the Premier League and although they are said to be the best commentators, Sky Sports was forced to sack them because of public uproar. Despite that, they continued to maintain a very loyal following who seemed to prefer them over the present Sky Sports team.
Although more details are not available at this time, the one question we continue to have is how Al Jazeera will manage to follow the Leagues mandate of securing their boxes in time for the season.
