Al Jazeera news channel has said Kuwait will allow the news broadcaster to reopen its office in the Gulf country, following its closure more than a year ago, AFP has reported.
“We received the official clearance to operate normally on Wednesday,” said Saad Al-Saeedi, the network’s Kuwait director.
The office of the Doha-based network was closed and the accreditations of its reporters withdrawn in December 2010 over the channel’s coverage of a police crackdown on a public gathering that involved beating of several MPs.
In further developments for the Pan-Arab channel, the English language version of Al Jazeera is to become available in Romania.
Quoting the countrys National Audiovisual Council (CNA), Mediafax reports that it will broadcast on a frequency licensed by the UKs Ofcom and have carriage on Bucharest-based Ines.
Ines Group is the longest operating IPTV service in Romania, having launched in 2006.
