Alaa Mahmoud’s short film, 1+1, which premiered in Paris, is set to compete in the Egyptian Short Film Competition at the fifth edition of the Cairo International Short Film Festival. The festival is scheduled to take place from December 19 to 22 at the Cairo Opera House.
The screening of 1+1 is slated for Wednesday, December 20, at 7 pm at the El Hanager Cinema within the Cairo Opera House.
Set against the backdrop of a city devastated by a great war, the film revolves around a man and a woman from opposing sides, grappling with the decision to either persist in conflict or embrace peace.
Distributed globally by MAD Solutions, the film features British award-winning actor Amir El-Masry and Egyptian actress Sarrah Abdelrahman. 1+1 delves into the physical and moral repercussions of war.
The film previously made appearances at the Aswan International Women’s Film Festival, Meta Film Festival, and Tripoli Film Festival.
Alaa Mahmoud, an Egyptian filmmaker and graduate of the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo, gained recognition for her debut short film, 1+1. During her time at the institute, she served as an assistant director and was chosen as one of 10 female directors from various countries for an artistic residency, where she developed a script at the 2019 International Women’s Film Festival in Tunisia.
Currently, Mahmoud is immersed in a new project titled My Grandmother’s Dress.
