Amazon is planning for the ad breaks to be short and could still choose to continue with the present format.
Amazon’s subscription video service, Prime Video, is reportedly set to launch an ad-supported tier, according to a report in the Wall St Journal. Amazon already runs an advertising-supported service, Freevee, and its sports coverage, such as the Premier League, already comes with advertising.
WSJ reported that Amazon is considering adding ad-based tiers from Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount to its Prime Video Channels super-aggregation service. This will allow users to subscribe to these services through Prime Video and watch their content through the Prime Video app. Users can currently sign up for ad-free versions of Max and Paramount+ via the Channels offering.
Advertisers have urged the platform to introduce advertising to take advantage of the reach of premium movies and series.
The discussions are still in the early stages, and it is unclear when or if ads will actually appear on Prime Video.
