Abot Hameiri Barkai created the Israeli drama for Yes TV.
Yes Studios has announced that Shtisel, the acclaimed Israeli series that was previously available on Netflix, has now been acquired by Amazon Prime Video in the US. The deal encompasses all three seasons of the show (33 x 45’), with the first season being released on the platform on January 16. This development closely follows the recent availability of Shtisel on the global Israeli content platform IZZY and the Jewish storytelling platform ChaiFlicks, initially in the US, Australia, and New Zealand, according to a report by Variety.
Shtisel intricately portrays the daily lives and relationships of the extended Shtisel family, an intimately connected and argumentative ultra-Orthodox family residing in modern-day Jerusalem.
Created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, the series gained global recognition during its tenure on Netflix, providing insights into Haredi society. Produced by yes TV and Abot Hameiri Barkai for yes TV, the series has garnered 17 Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Script, Best Actor (twice), and Best Actress.
Speaking about the deal, Sharon Levi, Managing Director of yes Studios, said: “With its endearing characters and compelling look into everyday life in an ultra-orthodox community, Shtisel has quickly become an addictive and binge-worthy series wherever it has been made available. Its reputation and huge word-of-mouth support means that it is in constant demand, so we are excited to now introduce the Shtisel family to a whole new audience through this latest partnership with Amazon, as well as the recent deals with IZZY and ChaiFlicks.”
