Johannes Larcher, head of HBO Max International, will take over Malhotra's responsibilities for streaming in the region.
Amit Malhotra, HBO Max Managing Director for Southeast Asia and India, has exited the WarnerMedia-owned video streaming platform after a brief seven-month stint at the company.
Malhotra was drafted to WarnerMedia in June last year as MD for HBO Max. Prior to joining HBO Max, Malhotra was regional lead for Disney+ in Southeast Asia, where he was responsible for overseeing the launch and operations of Disney’s streaming services in the region, including Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar and Hotstar.
HBO Max has not yet launched in Southeast Asia and has not announced a definitive date when it will do so. However, Malhotra’s remit included oversight of the existing HBO GO streaming service available which is currently available in eight territories in the region.
According to media reports, HBO Max International Head Johannes Larcher will be directly involved in the affairs of Southeast Asia and India markets following Malhotra’s exit.
