The programme will centre around this year’s theme, “Our Stories, Our Narratives”, which is also reflected in the artwork of this edition.
The Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) has announced the distinguished members of its juries for the upcoming fifth edition, scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan from July 3 to 11, 2024.
Jurors were selected based on their expertise and significant contributions to the art of film, ensuring a diverse panel that represents various facets of the film industry.
Leading the jury for Arab Feature Narrative Films are Aida Begić, a Bosnian director and professor; Hakim Belabbes, an independent Moroccan filmmaker; Dhafer L’Abidine, a versatile Tunisian actor, director, producer, and writer; and Presley Chweneyagae, a South African actor, writer, and philanthropist.
The Arab Feature Documentary Films jury includes Laith Al-Majali, a prolific Jordanian producer, editor, and photographer; Khadija Al-Salami, one of Yemen’s pioneering female filmmakers; and Steven Markovitz, a South African producer and film distributor.
For the Arab Short Films category, jurors include Khadar Ayderus Ahmed, a Somali-Finnish screenwriter and director; Murad Abu-Eisheh, a Jordanian scriptwriter and director; and Susan Youssef, celebrated for her dramatic feature Habibi Rasak Kharban.
The FIPRESCI Prize jury for the Arab Feature Documentary Competition comprises Ahmed Al-Ayyad, a Saudi journalist and critic, founder of the online platform “Fasllah”; Ola Salwa, a prominent Polish film critic and journalist; and Ronald P. Glasbergen, an architect, artist, and curator from Rotterdam.
Additionally, the Amman Film Industry Days (AFID) will feature a professional jury tasked with selecting winning projects for development and post-production platforms. The panel includes Jihan El-Tahri, a director and producer specialising in African and Arab cinema; Alice Kharoubi, Artistic Director of Cinema Programming at the Marché du Film in Cannes; Amin Matalqa, a Jordanian filmmaker based in Los Angeles; Nicolas Wadimoff, a Swiss filmmaker and founder of Akka Films; and Jana Wehbe, a producer and filmmaker, co-founder of The Attic production boutique and associated with the Doha Film Institute.
