Egyptian actor Amr Youssef will be starring in a new TV series titled El Malik (The King), in which he will play the role of King Ahmose, who completed the expulsion of the Hyksos
Based on the novel Kifah Teba by Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, the TV series is co-produced by Synergy Films/ Tamer Morsi and AROMA as the first TV series about ancient Egyptians.
El Malik is set to air during Ramadan 2021.
The TV series tells the story of King Ahmose and his journey in liberating Egypt, which was occupied in the north and threatened in the south, and completing the expulsion of the Hyksos from Thebes.
El Malik is co-written by Mohamed Diab, Khaled Diab, and Sherine Diab, marking their second collaboration with Youssef after Tayea TV series in Ramadan 2018.
Featuring an all-star cast, the new TV series is directed by Husain El-Minbawi, who previously worked with Youssef in A’d Tanazoly (Countdown) TV series.
Producer Tamer Mortada, the founder of AROMA, said: “El Malik TV series will be the biggest production of Synergy Films and AROMA in Ramadan 2021 for addressing such a major time period in history, which requires the construction of huge sets, and designing impressive historical costumes to suit the era, in addition to the visual effects needed for the battle scenes, which will be done by AROMA’s team.”
