'Puppetson's' selection for MedPitching, part of the MedFilm Festival, is a significant milestone, offering the film the chance to explore potential co-production opportunities in Italy.
Egyptian filmmaker Amrosh Badr’s feature documentary Puppetson has been selected to participate in the third edition of MedPitching. The event will be held on November 7 and 8, 2024, as part of the 30th edition of MedFilm Festival, which is taking place in Rome from November 7 to 17, 2024.
MedPitching, organised under the framework of MedMeetings, aims to foster co-production opportunities within the Euro-Mediterranean region by connecting international film projects with Italian producers. The platform offers a unique chance to engage in creative collaborations, encouraging the growth of independent cinema.
Puppetson delves into the complexities of the father-son relationship of Atef Abu Shehba, a 70-year-old puppeteer, and his son Shadi, a talented yet disillusioned puppeteer in his 30s, facing the fading art of puppetry in Egypt, and the struggle to reconcile artistic dreams with life’s realities.
The selection of Puppetson for MedPitching is a significant milestone, offering the film the chance to explore potential co-production opportunities in Italy, further solidifying its place on the international stage. The film is produced by Terzo Films and co-produced by Red Star Films. It has previously won two awards from ‘The Factory’ initiative at the Luxor African Film Festival, participated in the documentary films workshop at the Ismailia International Documentary and Short Film Festival in cooperation with the American Embassy in Cairo and Film Independent.
