Following its merger with OSN+, Anghami has chosen Bitmovin’s VOD Encoding to encode more than 40,000 video files, bringing the best video content to the MENA region on one platform.
Bitmovin, a provider of video streaming infrastructure, has announced that Anghami has chosen its VOD Encoding, deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS), to encode its extensive content catalogue in the highest quality at speed and scale.
Following a landmark merger with Dubai-based streamer OSN+, Anghami has reportedly become the first platform in the Middle East and North Africa to offer customers premium films, TV shows, and music, reaching a combined user base of over 120m. This joint venture aims to create a dynamic media ecosystem by integrating Anghami’s advanced technology and vast music library with OSN+’s premium content offerings.
Anghami undertook a thorough evaluation of its existing technical infrastructure to ensure seamless integration of OSN+’s film and TV library. Recognising the need for a high-performance VOD Encoder to manage its vast content efficiently, Anghami selected Bitmovin’s VOD Encoding solution. The decision was driven by Bitmovin’s ability to provide superior viewing experiences through encoding features and support for the latest, most efficient codecs.
Speaking about the partnership, Elias Khoury, VP of Information & Content Systems at Anghami, said: “Making our vision for our joint offering a reality requires a robust and reliable underlying technology infrastructure that ensures we can offer our users a truly immersive and personalized multimedia experience. Bitmovn’s VOD Encoder is proven in the market, and the Bitmovin team has impressed us with their technical expertise and understanding of our requirements and what we want to achieve. Bitmovin is a fantastic technology partner, and its VOD Encoder has surpassed our expectations and encoded over 40,000 assets in the highest rendition at lightning-quick speed.”
Anghami is utilising Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder for its Per-Title Encoding feature, which ensures each video asset is encoded to maintain the highest visual quality with a customised adaptive bitrate ladder. This approach optimises the viewer’s experience while reducing storage and CDN costs. Additionally, Anghami is leveraging Bitmovin’s support for Dolby E to offer an immersive home viewing and sound experience.
Stefan Lederer, CEO and co-founder of Bitmovin, added: “We’re super excited to join Anghami on its journey with OSN+ as it aims to reimagine the entertainment experience across the Middle East and North Africa. Our VOD Encoder was built for rapid handling of entire content libraries, and we’ve proven its ability again by encoding tens of thousands of video assets ultra-fast in the highest quality. This ensured OSN+’s widely watched and loved programming can join Anghami’s extensive music library as the two companies kick off their new era together.”
Bitmovin’s VOD Encoder employs massively distributed processing and content-aware encoding, enabling content providers to deliver high-quality video. The VOD Encoder supports file-based transcoding and packaging within a single, user-friendly product. It offers advanced multi-codec support, including AV1, VP9, HEVC, H.264, and more, alongside industry-standard encryption and studio-grade forensic watermarking. This ensures cost-effective and secure delivery of video at resolutions up to 8K Ultra-High Definition (UHD), while automatically scaling to optimize operational efficiency and return on investment (ROI).
