The new deal will see Plepler produce original TV shows, movies, and documentaries exclusively for Apple TV Plus through his company, Eden Productions.
Apple’s recently launched streaming service Apple TV Plus has signed a five-year deal with former HBO chairman and chief executive Richard Plepler.
Through his production company, Eden Productions, Plepler will produce exclusive content for Apple TV Plus which will include original TV shows, movies, and documentaries.
The move comes after Plepler left his position at HBO in February last year after a 28-year tenure, amid structural changes to its parent company, WarnerMedia.
During Plepler’s time with HBO, the channel won more than 160 Emmy awards — for shows from Game of Thrones to Veep and Big Little Lies.
Commenting on the new deal, Plepler was quoted as saying: “I’m excited to work with Zack, Jamie and the standout team at Apple who have been deeply supportive of my vision for Eden from day one. The shows that Zack and Jamie produced, The Crown and Breaking Bad, are among those I most admired. Apple is one of the most creative companies in the world and the perfect home for my new production company and the next chapter.”
