The Arab Cinema Centre, a MAD Solutions initiative, has been responsible for bringing more Arab entities to international platforms like Berlinale.
For the seventh consecutive year, the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) will take part in the 71st Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) that will be held virtually this year from March 1-5. Under the umbrella of the Arab Cinema Center, nine partners including film organisations, companies and festivals will participate within the festival.
ACC partners at the Berlinale this year include Egyptian entities, Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), El Gouna Film Festival, Film Clinic, Lagoonie Film Production; UAE-based Greener Screen, MAD Solutions from the Egypt and UAE), Saudi-Egypt based Rotana Group, US firm Telescope Film and Jordan’s Royal Film Commission.
This year’s edition of Berlinale will see a remarkable number of Arab films, of which seven will compete within the festival’s particoloured sections. Furthermore, Egyptian artist Basim Magdy has been selected to be a juror for the short films’ competition.
The Arab films participating within the festival’s sections include Lebanese-French film Memory Box by directors Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (Competition), Lebanese films Miguel’s War and Death of a Virgin, The Sin of Not Living by director George Peter Barbari, Souad by director Ayten Amin (Panorama), and Egyptian-Palestinian film As I Want by director Samaher Alqadi (Encounters).
The Forum Expanded section will include the Egyptian film Seven Years Around the Nile Delta by Sharief Zohairy and Lebanese film All of Your Stars are But Dust on my Shoes by director Haig Aivazian.
