According to the report, Netflix will still lead the market, but local players will provide a strong challenge.
The number of subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) users in 13 Arabic countries is anticipated to nearly double by 2029, reaching a cumulative figure of 28m, a significant increase from the 15m reported in 2023, according to the latest study by Digital TV Research.
While Netflix is expected to maintain its market leadership, local streaming services will emerge as robust competitors.
StarzPlay, Shahid VIP, and OSN+ are poised to collectively capture 46% of the total Arabic subscriptions by 2029, contributing a combined growth of 4.7m subscribers from 2023.
Commenting on the findings of the report, Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “As some of the US-based platforms lower their global rollout and local content commitments, the Arabic players will thrive.”
