The first day of the Arabsat customer forum Atheer concluded with a gala dinner and awards last night. The satellite operator awarded its key customers with trophies and medals for their role in supporting and growing the regions broadcast industry. The broadcasters felicitated at the awards include AlMajd TV Network, Al Nileen Sports TV, Rotana TV Network, Al Nahar TV, BBC World News HD and Télédiffusion de Mauritanie.
Day two of the forum today will feature presentations by regional broadcasters about how the MENA TV industry is evolving, the main challenges and the road ahead.
The first interview of the day is with Samir Safir, CEO of MY-HD about new approach to pay-TV in the MENA. It will be followed by a presentation by Thomas Keene of Trio about Trios offerings for MENA homes.
Media expert Dr Riyadh Najm, will then present an overview of the broadcast industry in the MENA region. He will address the role of satellite broadcasting, pay-TV in the region and the growth of FTA channels among other topics.
Dr Raed Khusheim, CEO of Selevision will speak about how innovative solutions can improve the TV viewing experience for the regional audience. He will introduce Selevisions HbbTV offerings as well as the companys efforts to reach HD to a larger customer base.
This will be followed by a presentation by Girogio Giacomini, Managing Director Middle East at Globecast. He will speak about distributing HD content globally.
An interview with Miflah Al Haftaa, Chairman and CEO of Saudi Media City will touch upon key topics that impact the regional TV industry with a special focus on Saudi Arabia and how the media city is shaping up the kingdoms broadcasting future.
Nabil Al Shanti will close the days proceedings, which will be followed by lunch.
The guests are invited for a city tour to experience the culture and hospitality of Marrakech after lunch.
