Arabian Radio Network (ARN) will launch a brand new radio station in Q4 2012, Steve Smith, COO of ARN, revealed at a panel discussion hosted by TECOM in Dubai recently. He declined, however, to reveal further details promising an official announcement in the near future.
This news comes just a year after the launch of 93.4 Radio Shoma, ARNs first Farsi music station. Extensive research via social media platforms was undertaken within the Farsi speaking community before launching Radio Shoma, resulting in a strong interest from a young, fresh audience. Similar research has been conducted towards the impending launch.
Speaking at the panel discussion in Dubai, Smith said: “Any radio station needs this kind of research, and we won’t push the button on a new station until we’ve done our research now. We can use social media to make programming decisions, to move forward.”
The new station will be the ninth ARN radio station broadcasting across the UAE, adding to its English, Arabic, Asian and Farsi speaking selection.
The discussion panel, Advertising Trends in the Arab Region: The Present and the Future was hosted as part of the Thought Incubator Series. This is an ongoing initiative from TECOM Media Cluster to bring together experts from different sectors of the media to discuss specific trends.
