One of the documentaries called Luxury Through The Ages is a 23-minute film which delves into the world of luxury with art historian Alastair Sooke. The documentary asks what it is about luxury that inspires both desire and derision and starts the journey with the oldest pearl in known existence at the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s 10,000 Years of Luxury exhibition.
The film explores how taste, place and power combine to create surprising cultural trends throughout Abu Dhabi’s history. The film is written by Alastair Sooke and directed by Kat Mansoor who has documentaries like Here’s Johnny and Time Piece to his name.
The second documentary called Dubai By Design is a 23-minute film with four short documentaries of four minutes each. The documentary encounters the exciting world of design at the fifth edition of Dubai Design Week.
The film shows curators, designers, students and visitors from across the globe, and visits studios, observes fabrication and installation and engages with the audience of the event.
The focus of the film is on the evolution of design in the Middle East and the on-going cultural exchange it has with the world. The film was directed by Wasseem Hamdan.
