This marks the fifth award bestowed this year, acknowledging the coverage by BeIN Sports of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
BeIN Media Group has been honoured with the coveted ‘Most Successful Sports Event Broadcast’ award at the 2023 Sports Business Awards. The recognition is a testament to the performance of beIN Sports, the group’s flagship sports channel, for its comprehensive coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
As the official broadcaster of the tournament in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), beIN Sports went above and beyond in delivering extensive, exclusive, and easily accessible coverage of the historic event, marking the first time the FIFA World Cup was hosted in the Arab World. The channel, equipped with six new high-definition channels, 20-plus studios, and a team of more than 120 analysts, set a new standard for broadcasting major tournaments.
Throughout the month-long spectacle, beIN’s linear channels garnered 5.4bn cumulative views, with a record-breaking 242.8m viewers tuning in for the final – equivalent to 68% of MENA’s adult population. The final match on beIN Sports’ official YouTube channel recorded a cumulative viewership of 25m and set a regional record with 4.4m simultaneous viewers. Across beIN Sports’ social media platforms, the accounts generated a staggering 1.1bn video views and 5.5bn impressions.
Commenting on the achievement, Mohammad Al-Subaie, CEO of beIN MENA, said: “We are truly honoured to receive this prestigious award, which underlines our commitment to providing unparalleled sports content to fans around the world. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 holds a special place in the hearts of sports enthusiasts and we are proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing the magic of this event to our viewers in the MENA region.”
The Sports Business Awards, judged by influential Chief Executives of Sport Governing Bodies, celebrates businesses within the sports industry and recognises organisations, teams, and individuals excelling in their roles.
This accolade adds to beIN’s list of achievements in the media and entertainment industry, with the network securing five awards this year for its coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at SPIA – Sports Industry Awards, MENA Digital Awards, and the BroadcastPro ME Awards.
