The UAE telcos unblocked the sports channels after more than a month amid the political stand-off with Qatar, where the broadcaster is based. Other channels such as Al Jazeera and Baraem TV are still blocked by the UAE authorities.
Text messages were sent to subscribers about the service being unblocked in the UAE. The message said that the beIN channels will be available to customers starting July 22 and that normal charges would apply.
The text message further added that The provision of the beIN package will be subject to an ongoing review.
The news comes just in time for sports fans to enjoy the upcoming European football season. beIN has the exclusive rights in the region to broadcast the English Premier League, Spains La Liga and other major competitions, including the Champions League. The broadcaster has won exclusive rights to four more years of UEFA Champions League and Europa League for the MENA region.
On June 14, authorities in the UAE ordered vendors to stop selling beIN Sports receivers and cards, warning that any shop that violated the order would be subject to fines, according to UAEs official news agency, WAM.
