BeIN Sports received award for its outstanding coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
BeIN Sports, the prominent sports broadcaster in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), has been honoured with the title of ‘Best Sports Strategy of the Year’ at the 13th edition of the BroadcastPro ME Summit & Awards. This event, which took place on November 8, celebrates excellence within the MENA entertainment, broadcast, and satellite industries.
In the highly competitive ‘Best Sports Strategy of the Year’ category, beIN showcased its prowess in both linear and digital platforms, particularly through its comprehensive coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The network’s initiative commenced an impressive 500 days before the tournament kickoff, featuring dedicated broadcast programmes, World Cup bulletins, and highlight reels from previous games. Throughout the event, beIN delivered 18+ hours of daily live coverage across its nine channels, employing over 120 leading international and regional experts in more than 20 state-of-the-art studios.
BeIN Sports achieved remarkable success on its linear channels, attracting an astounding 242.8m viewers across the region for the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France. This audience engagement accounted for 68% of the total adult population in MENA, accumulating an overall viewership of more than 5.4bn over the month-long tournament.
Meanwhile, beIN’s digital presence left a lasting impression, with online videos amassing 1.1bn views and a total watch time of 33m hours. The social media team further reinforced its commitment to surpassing previous achievements, posting 3,400 times more content than during the previous World Cup coverage.
Jassim Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, Director of Corporate Communications for beIN MENA, said: “With the World Cup being hosted in an Arab country for the first time, we were committed to go above and beyond to provide exceptional coverage and the best viewing experience possible for our broadcast and digital viewers. This latest accolade underlines our continued drive for excellence in every aspect of the business and we look forward to delivering more success in the future.”
This latest accolade adds to beIN’s recent triumphs, including a double victory at the MENA Digital Awards and a Gold award for the ‘Best Use of Digital and Social in Sports’ at the Sports Industry Awards 2023.
