The 44th edition of the festival saw 103 films participating from 53 countries.
Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced the dates for its 45th edition which will be held from November 15 to 24, 2023, at the Cairo Opera House.
The CIFF announced the date of the new session headed by Hussein Fahmy, Amir Ramses, the festival director, and the director of the programming office Andrew Mohsen, during the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival.
At the 44th edition of the festival, 103 films from 53 countries were screened, including 30 international premieres and 57 Middle East and North African premieres.
At the festival’s 44th edition, the Golden Pyramid Appreciation Award was presented to Hungarian director Bella Tarr for her lifetime achievement as one of the most prominent international filmmakers.
The director, Kamela Abu Zekry, was awarded the “Faten Hamama” Award for Excellence, for her distinguished directorial imprint.
Based on the festival’s role in strengthening and developing the film industry and preserving cinematic heritage, the 44th edition witnessed the restoration and re-presentation of two classic Egyptian films, Diary of a Deputy in the Countryside by Tawfiq Saleh and Song through the passage by Ali Abdel Khalek.
