The Cairo International Film Festival has opened submissions for its 42nd edition, which is scheduled to be held from November 19 to 28 this year.
Filmmakers can submit their shorts, features and documentaries online through the festival’s website. The last date of submission is August 31.
Additionally, Egyptian writer and film critic Ahmed Shawky has been officially named as the festival’s new artistic director, succeeding the film critic Youssef Cherif Rizkallah.
This year’s festival will see winners of the “Cinema of Tomorrow” competition go on to compete in the Short Film (Animated and Live Action) category at the Academy Awards; a particularly important opportunity given the festival’s pledge of equal representation, according to Vogue.
