Egyptian actor Hassan Hosny will be awarded the Faten Hamama Award at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), which will run from November 20-29, as reported by Egyptian press.
In an official statement released by the festivals management, Hosny will be given the award – named after late actress Faten Hamama – at the opening ceremony of the CIFF. The Faten Hamama Award is the highest prize granted by the Cairo International Film Festival; it was awarded last year to veteran Comedian Samir Ghanem, Actor Maged el-Kedwany and Actress Hend Sabry. The late Actress, Faten Hamama’s family supports the award financially.
Festival President Mohamed Hefzy stated that Hosny is being granted the award as a show of appreciation for the memorable roles he has played in Egyptian drama over the years. Hefzy further described the actor as “one of the stars that has enriched Egyptian cinema with memorable films, in addition to supporting and mentoring young actors he worked with”.
Hosny started off his career in the late 60s. One of Hosny’s break-out roles was as a villain in director Atef El-Tayeb’s Sawa’a El-Otobees. Other well-known moviesinclude Abood 3ala El-7odood, Africano, El Lemby and El Nazer among many others.
