The exclusive agreement, which is valid for a renewable period of five years, will make Canal+ exclusive distributor of beIN Sports across France.
French TV channel Canal+ and beIN Sports have finalised the distribution and sublicense agreement which was first announced in December 2019.
As part of the new deal, Canal+ will now be able to offer all of beIN’s premium sports channels within its bouquets and become the exclusive distributor of beIN Sports across all platforms in France, including third-party operators.
Meanwhile, BeIN Sports licensed its 2020-2024 Ligue 1 football rights to Canal under which the subscribers will be able to view two matches per day.
Commenting on the deal, Yousef Al-Obaidly, president of beIN Sports France and CEO of beIN Media Sport, was quoted as saying: “The French market for pay sports channels is undergoing radical changes, the consequence of the arrival of new players. Distributors of premium content, having acquired rights at a reasonable price will continue to develop successfully. This is precisely what beIN Sports os doing, in particular by sealing this partnership with Canal+.”
