Cannes Film Festival has announced the official selection for the 76th edition of the festival, which will run from May 16-27.
Nine filmmakers from the MENA region are among the line-up for this year’s edition.
Algerian-Brazilian filmmaker Karim Ainouz’s Firebrand, Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania’s Four Daughters, Senegalese-French film director and screenwriter Ramata-Toulaye Sy’s debut feature Banel & Adama, will screen in the official competition category.
Franco-Algerian producer-director Elias Belkeddar’s Omar La Fraise will show in the Midnight Screenings at Cannes.
Moroccan filmmaker Asmae El-Moudir’s The Mother of All Lies, Sudanese filmmaker Mohamed Kordofani’s Goodbye Julia, Moroccan filmmaker Kamal Lazraq’s debut feature Les Meutes, Iranian filmmakers Ali Asgari and Alireza Khatami’s Terrestrial Verses, will be screened in the Un Certain Regard category.
The lineup also features five films that have been backed by the Red Sea Film Fund, including Four Daughters, Banel E Adama, Goodbye Julia, Les Meutes and The Mother of All Lies.
