This initiative aims to inspire a new generation of photographers and strengthen the brand’s presence in the market.
Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) has launched Canon Academy in Senegal, an initiative designed to develop local photographic talent. Partnering with the Kourtrajmé Dakar Film School and Sup’IMax School, Canon is dedicated to providing aspiring photographers with top-tier education and resources.
Canon Academy offers a comprehensive educational programme that includes hands-on workshops across various photography topics. So far, the initiative has successfully trained 85 students, blending theory with practice to build confidence and passion in participants. The curriculum covers essential subjects such as exposure, composition, lighting and focus, all delivered by expert trainers.
The launch was celebrated with a meet-up event at the Kourtrajmé Dakar Film School, introducing the local photography community to Canon’s educational offerings, product lineup and the immersive Canon Academy experience.
On August 14, the heart of the Canon Academy experience took place at Sup’IMax School, where Canon Ambassador Seibou Traore led workshops focusing on photography fundamentals like the exposure triangle, lighting and mastering manual mode. These practical sessions aimed to unlock the creative potential of participants and elevate their photography skills.
Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director at Canon Central and North Africa, said: “Canon Academy is dedicated to providing photographers with unparalleled learning opportunities. Through hands-on workshops and expert guidance, we empower photographers of all levels to explore their passion and achieve their full potential. We are excited to bring this enriching experience to Senegal and contribute to the growth of the local photography community.”
Canon Academy is tailored for Canon users, offering workshops led by certified Canon trainers to ensure participants receive professional-level instruction. The programme is designed to accommodate photographers of all skill levels, from beginners to experts, allowing them to progress at their own pace.
Kourtrajmé Dakar Film School and Sup’IMax School, both prominent institutions in creative education, share Canon’s vision for fostering creativity.”We’re excited to partner with Canon to empower the next generation of filmmakers and photographers. Together, we’ll create a brighter future for Senegal’s creative industry,” addedSangaré Toumani – Director, Kourtrajmé Dakar Film School.
This collaboration between Canon, Kourtrajmé Dakar Film School and Sup’IMax School embodies Canon’s corporate philosophy of Kyosei, which emphasises working together for the common good. By combining forces, these organisations are creating a strong platform for young talent to flourish and contribute to Senegal’s creative scene.
The launch event and workshops mark a significant milestone for Canon in Senegal, highlighting the company’s commitment to investing in local communities and promoting photography as an art form. Canon is confident that this initiative will inspire a new generation of photographers and strengthen its presence in the region.
