Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett will join the jury to select the winner for the IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Award in December during the Dubai International Film Festival.
Luxury Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen in association with Dubai International Film Festival launched the IW Schaffhausen Filmmaker Award earlier this year. The cash prize of US$ 100,000 will help the winning filmmaker transfer their vision to the screen.
For many years now we have had a passion for the cinema. Every director tells a story with his films, said Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
At IWC Schaffhausen story telling is the basis or to be more precise part of the DNA of everything we do. We believe in the proliferation of new voices, and we are delighted to contribute to the Arab storytelling by this Filmmaker Award.
Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF said: “We have been overwhelmed with the quality of submissions from a dynamic group of filmmakers who have recognised this opportunity made possible by IWC to help achieve them achieve the ultimate – bringing their script to screen.
Selected from several established and upcoming directors from the Gulf region, the four shortlisted projects include Nothing Doing in Baghdad by Maysoon Pachachi, The Sleeping Tree by Mohammed Rashed Buali, Girls in the Know by Abdullah Al Kaabi and From A to B by Ali F. Mostafa.
The jury members other than Cate Blanchett include Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, Masoud Amralla Al Ali, Artistic Director of DIFF and Olivier Père, General Director of Paris-based Arte France Cinema.
