Sony CEO Kaz Hirai will take over as Chairman, with current CFO Kenichiro Yoshida taking over as CEO.
After a six-year stint as the CEO, Kaz Hirai has announced that he is stepping down from the role. Starting April 1, Hirai will transition to a chairman role within the company. Sony’s CFO Kenichiro Yoshida will be taking over as President and CEO.
Yoshida has been with Sony since 1987. He became CFO in 2014, after previously serving as Chief Strategy Officer and head of Sony’s internet business So-net.
As per media reports, the current CEO Kazuo Hirai said it was time to move on to a “new chapter” in his life, after completing the company’s latest three-year plan ahead of targets.
The company is in the midst of a turnaround with most of its divisions including the video games, movies, music and home entertainment products expected to post improvements over last year.
