The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced plans to organise a series of workshops during its 45th edition, scheduled from November 13 to 22, as part of its ongoing efforts to support and develop the cinema industry and contribute to the future of filmmaking.
These workshops are a key initiative by the festival administration, which views film festivals as platforms that go beyond screenings to actively support filmmakers. By offering these workshops, CIFF aims to enhance the skills and broaden the creative perspectives of participants.
This year, CIFF will feature three workshops. The first, titled “Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Sound Design and Mixing,” is organised in collaboration with the Fulbright Commission in Egypt and will be led by American sound designer Monte Taylor. Attendees will gain insights into the latest AI-driven technologies in sound design and mixing, benefiting from Taylor’s extensive experience.
The second workshop, “Pitching Projects to Producers and Financiers,” will be hosted in partnership with Film Independent and the US Embassy in Cairo. It aims to equip filmmakers with the skills needed to effectively pitch their projects, helping them attract the attention of financiers and producers and turn their cinematic visions into reality.
The third workshop, “Pitching Scripts to Producers and Financiers,” will focus on scriptwriting. It will feature mentors such as Mohamed Hussein and Hossam El Kholy, who will guide participants on how to pitch their scripts in a way that appeals to producers and financiers, thereby increasing the chances of turning their ideas into successful films.
These workshops underscore CIFF’s commitment to fostering innovation and creativity in the film industry. They also provide young talents with opportunities to learn and grow, contributing to the development of a new generation of filmmakers poised to make a global impact.
Submissions for these workshops are open until August 31, 2024. Interested applicants can apply by emailing cid.workshops@ciff.org.eg and specifying the workshop title in the email subject line.
