The 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival will take place from November 13 to 22, 2022.
Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will be screening six Egyptian films, including a feature narrative, a feature documentary, and four shorts helmed by several up-and-coming film directors during the 44th edition.
The festival’s lineup of Egyptian films will feature Ahmad Abdalla’s 19 B as part of the International Competition. Four films in the Short Film Competition include My Girl Friend, Mama, From the Work of the Devil, and The Interview, whereas the documentary film Far From the Nile will be featured in the Horizons of Arab Cinema.
19 B follows the story of a doorman who leads a reclusive life in the abandoned villa that he guards. One day, he finds himself forced to face a situation with a person who lives on the opposite street, which will mark a turning point in his life.
Directed by Kawthar Younis, My Girl Friend is a short narrative that will be having its MENA premiere at Cairo International Film Festival.
Mama is a short narrative by director Naji Ismail featuring Mai El Gheity as its lead actress. The film is about a twenty-one-year-old girl who is hiding a terrifying secret to protect herself and her brother.
From the Work of the Devil is directed by Dessil Mekhtigian and will have its world premiere at CIFF. The film revolves around a young woman who returns to Cairo after 10 years to organise an exhibition on the pioneer Armenian photographers who archived Egypt through time. During preparations, the surroundings make her realise the reason behind her return.
The Interview is a short narrative film directed by Hind Metwally featuring Sarrah Abdelrahman as a lead actress.
Directed by Sherif El Katsha, Far From the Nile is a feature documentary having its world premiere at the Cairo International Film Festival as the opening film of the Horizons of Arab Cinema competition.
Amir Ramses, Director of Cairo International Film Festival, stated that this edition of CIFF will be featuring five Egyptian films landing their world premiere, while the sixth film My Girl Friend, by Kawthar Younis, will be screening for the second time following its participation at Venice Film Festival.
He further highlighted that Egyptian cinema is witnessing an awakening which is reflected in its strong presence at the festival with different feature narratives, shorts, and documentaries, which should make us all proud.
