Cinema Akil will bring both Hong Kong and Italian Cinema to Dubai audiences.
Cinema Akil, the only independent cinema in the UAE, has announced programmes for December month.
The globe-trotting film programme Making Waves: Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema will make its 15th stop to Dubai from December 9-14, after the film festival has travelled to 14 cities worldwide. It will feature free public screenings of the best of Hong Kong cinema in the presence of their filmmakers, and a photo film exhibition at Seeing Things Studio in collaboration with Gulf Photo Plus. You can register for the opening night film and enjoy free public screenings of films on December 10 and 11.
In collaboration with The Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Abu Dhabi, the three-day film-festival N.I.C.E: New Italian Cinema Events will feature the new and contemporary cinema from Italy. The selection includes award-winning films blurring the lines between fictional and essay work.
In a statement, the organisers said: “It’s not just that… we’ve had a few screenings of popular films seeping into the beginning of this month. Easing into Corsage, a film about Empress Elizabeth of Austria who has a future of strictly ceremonial duties laid out in front her, yet rebels against the hyperbolised image of herself.
“Last but not least, our big release from December 8- 22, Triangle of Sadness. See how social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty.”
