Zee5 also saw a spike in news consumption via connected devices and reported 166% growth in video views for the same period.
News consumption on Zee5 has increased by 178% compared to viewership figures prior to the lockdown, according to a statement from the media house. The tailored news coverage on COVID-19 has reportedly led to 12.4m viewers on the platform. The overall platform saw its viewership rise to 437.4m. The platform currently claims to have 66.3m users.
In a press statement, Zee5 revealed that the average watch time increased by 16% for live news and 29% for video-on-demand news.
Zee5 has also launched two exclusive channels – Dish Positive and Corona Coverage – as part of its #BeCalmStayInformed initiative. With Dish Positive, Zee5 created a fact check platform to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“With the role of OTT becoming more prominent in the sphere of presenting real-time news during the pandemic, ZEE5 is incessantly working towards taking various steps to bring even more trustworthy information with each passing day,” the company said in a media statement.
The rise in viewership is also likely to continue with Zee5 having launched 80 Originals on April 1.
