From the camera of Étienne Comar, praised for his César Award winning work on Of Gods and Men and Timbuktu, comes a tale of passion in the face of oppression. In 1943, France is a mired under German occupation yet every night the city comes alive with guitarist and composer Django Reinhardts witty, life-affirming gypsy swing music. Despite the ongoing persecution of countless Romany people, Django, played by gifted actor Reda Kateb, remains untouched due to his popularity and sway of the Parisian elite, until one day. Torn between his passion for his art and protection of his family, the unconventional musician must decide what it means to survive.
A recipient of international critical acclaim, Django was selected to open the 2017 Berlin Film Festival due to the films ability to move all audiences with its universal tale of identity set at the crux where Reinhardts passions and roots.
