With all eyes on Dubai, we at Dubai Cares along with our partner Oxfam, not only expect to raise funds but also increase awareness about the situation of Syrian displaced children and their families. This charity event presents a great opportunity to everyone interested in supporting Syrian displaced children and their families. We currently are reaching more than 8 million children in 31 developing countries, promoting quality primary education through integrated, scalable, sustainable and impactful programs that eliminate the underlying obstacles that prevent children from going to school and learning.
Oxfam Chief Executive Mark Goldring said: We are delighted to be involved with the Dubai International Film Festival again this year and its a wonderful opportunity for people to support the life changing work of Oxfam and Dubai Cares, while enjoying a unique evening of entertainment. The money raised will make a real difference in bolstering Oxfams response to the deepening crisis in Syria. To date, Oxfam has helped more than 220,000 people and we are continuing to expand our response to meet increasing needs but more vital funds are desperately needed.
The 2012 fundraiser also saw an opportunity to pledge on a vital project by Dubai Cares and Oxfam in rural Tanzania to improve access to clean water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene promotion for approximately 15,000 school children living in 25 communities. The project recognises that clean water and sanitation in schools are critical to ensure that children complete their education.
