Viewers will 'travel' to the bottom of an ancient submerged sink hole with an on-board exploration team that includes Sir Richard Branson and explorer Fabien Cousteau.rn
Discovery Channel has announced it will air a live two-hour special exploring the largest submerged sink hole in the world – Discovery LIVE: Into The Blue Hole – on December 2, exclusively on OSN. The event will also be live streamed on OSN Play.
The broadcast has been made possible through Discovery and OSNs local partner, du, and its broadcast facility, Samacom. The real-time broadcast will utilise cloud delivery technology to deliver the event to audiences across the Middle East.
Having only ever been properly investigated once before, by the legendary oceanographer Jacques Cousteau back in 1970, the two-hour special will take viewers on an adventure alongside on-board exploration team: businessman and philanthropist Sir Richard Branson; explorer Fabien Cousteau, grandson of Jacques Cousteau; and Erika Bergman, the Stingray 5000-manned submersibles pilot.
Picking up from where Cousteau left off, the epic show will dive live inside the 412-foot deep and 984-foot wide mystery, located 46 miles off the coast of Belize. Known for its crystal-clear water and abundance of sharks and sea life, the Blue Hole has never been mapped, it has never been plotted, and no one has any idea what lies at the bottom.
For the first time – and unlike Jacques mission the on-board exploration team will be accompanied by a second submersible, complete with additional lighting to allow them and the viewers – to explore as much as possible underwater.
Commenting on the new content, Nahla Elmallawany, Head of Content, Discovery Middle East & Africa, said: Exploring the world has always been at the heart of Discovery Channel. Thanks to our local partners and the innovation in technology, we couldnt be more excited to bring this entirely unique expedition Live to viewers across the region.
Emad Morcos, Chief Content Officer, OSN, added: OSN is proud to bring this live exploration exclusively to our customers across the region. We believe in giving OSN customers the best TV experiences through our content and technology, and this show will literally take viewers to a fascinating place theyve never been before.
Discovery Live: Into the Blue Hole premieres on Discovery Channel, exclusively on OSN channel 500, on 2 December at 1pm (UAE). The event will also be live streamed on OSN Play.
