Jared Bush and Byron Howard have directed the film, which won the 2022 Golden Globe Award for Best Picture - Animated.
After a decade-long hiatus, Disney is back to dubbing its works in Egyptian Arabic, starting with its latest animated film titled Encanto.
The film will be released with two full dubbing tracks, one in Egyptian colloquial Arabic, and another in Standard Arabic.
Disney began Egyptian dubbing in the 70s with the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but they put a pause on it in 2012 when they replaced us with classical Fusha Arabic.
After that, Arab audiences launched several campaigns on the internet, sometimes in the form of e-petitions, sometimes in the form of negative reviews on iTunes, and sometimes in the form of hashtags to express their anger.
Perhaps the most famous hashtag was #Disney_must_return_Egyptian, which quickly turned trendy worldwide and in several Gulf and Arab countries. Many Egyptian stars such as Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki, both of whom have played Disney characters, supported the campaign, which also got a huge signal boost with several media outlets covering it, including Al-Arabiya, Al-Jazeera and BBC Arabic, and MBC.
Encanto was released on the Disney streaming service on December 24, 2021. The story is about an extraordinary Colombian family who lives hidden in a magical place called Encanto. The magic of the town has blessed every child in the family with unique magical powers, except Mirabel, who later tries to save the town after discovering that the magic surrounding it is now in danger.
The film, which won the 2022 Golden Globe Award for Best Picture – Animated, was directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard.
