Dubai Media Inc. will launch a new radio station that will broadcast Khaleeji and Emirati music along with live programmes that celebrate Arab culture. The new channel could potentially rival Arab Radio Network’s (ARN) Al Khaleejiya channel (100.9 FM).
The launch date for DMI’s new radio channel has not been announced. However, Khadija Al Marzouqi has been made director of the new Dubai FM radio.
There is speculation on how news of the launch of a new radio channel will be received by Arab Radio Network, a part of Arab Media Group (AMG), which is also, state backed.
AMGs TV and publishing business was merged with DMI last year. Its radio stations, however, continue to operate as part of AMG.
ARN presently runs eight radio channels and there are rumours that it has plans to launch one more.
Mahmoud Al Rasheed, ARN’s General Manager refused to comment.
In the meantime, DMI also has plans to launch an Arabic weekly magazine titled ARA Dubai from September to reflect the true spirit of Dubai through its coverage of sports, entertainment and womens issues.
