UAE telco Du has announced that it will start 4K content broadcast service.
According to Samera Geissah, Vice-President of Consumer, New Business and Innovation at Du: Very soon, we plan to introduce 4K streaming to our subscribers. We have already obtained rights from certain studios for delivering their content. To start with, we will be offering a bunch of TV series and movies in 4K.
This announcement comes just a month after Etisalat announced that it has partnered with Huawei to introduce the first Ultra HD 4K IPTV service in the Middle East and Africa (MEA). Etisalats 4K service will be available exclusively for its eLife customers in the UAE starting in the first quarter of 2016.
Netflix, which launched its online streaming service in the GCC recently, already offers premium subscribers 4K titles.
Dus 4K service is expected to go live in March and will take advantage of the growing popularity of 4K ultra HD TVs in the UAE and surrounding markets.
