Radio Mango is the second Malayalam radio station in the UAE to cease operations within a year of another Malayalam station going off-air early last year.
Radio Mango 96.2, a Dubai-based Malayalam FM radio station, has shut down its operations. Launched in 2014, the radio stations programming catered largely to Indian expatriates familiar with Malayalam language. The station ceased its operations this month, without citing any specific reason for going off-air.
Reporting about the station, Gulf News speculated that a drop in advertisement revenue could have been a possible reason for the station to cease operations. On January 18, the station announced its closure in a full-page advertisement in Malayala Manorama, a Malayalam daily published by the same management.
Radio Mango is the second Malayalam radio station in the UAE, to go off-air in the last year. The Ras Al Khaimah-based Voice of Kerala also shut shop last year.
