Behind the Scenes, a Dubai-based production house, hosted a masterclass for cinematographers with the support of Dubai Culture, Dubai International Film Festival, Dubai Film and TV Commission along with technology sponsors, Vitec, Canon, Fuji and film equipment rental house, Gamma Engineering ME.
The free to attend four-day event, from October 10-13, 2017, at Dubai Production City, featured in-depth presentations and demonstrations by award-winning cinematographers Theo Van De Sande, Steven Shaw and Joachim Zell, VP of Technology EFILM Deluxe and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science ACES project vice chair.
The workshop is one of twenty four that Behind the Scenes is hosting in Dubai through 2017. Commenting on the series of events, the companys Managing Director Mohammad Salam said: We believe in nurturing local talent and inviting experienced individuals helps us improve local skills. Moreover the UAE is seen as a production hub for many international films and so we believe local talent needs to identified and improved.
The masterclass covered the following areas: Camera work , lighting and filming a subject with 2x cameras and imaging science and colour correction, among other areas.
The workshops practical sessions covered everything from how to set up and film a drama scene, a green screen shot and a candle lit scene, among other exercises. In the spirit of sharing unique insights from years of experience, Theo Van De Sande and Steven Shaw, shared knowledge drawn from their extensive body of work and those from other renowned names in the field.
Speaking to BroadcastPro ME, Theo Van D Sande who was the cinematographer for Wesley Snipes’ Blade said: I look forward to interacting with young cinematographers and sharing my knowledge with them. With television serials now setting benchmarks in originality, there has never been a more exciting time to be a cinematographer.
