Signed at the recent European Film Market, the deal includes rights to a vast lineup of productions from the Hollywood studios up until 2023.
Eagle Films, one of the major Hollywood distributors in the Arab world, recently signed a USD 5m deal with Lionsgate, a $8.3m deal with STX and a number of other deals at the European Film Market that will give it exclusive MENA rights to a number of films including Spiral: New Saw Chapter, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, The Ice Road, Vanquish, The Comeback Trail and Jolt, all of which are scheduled for first window release as soon as next month. A $7.6m deal signed with Miramax in 2019 will see Eagle Films release Wrath of Man in time for Eid Al Fitr this year.
The distributor has also secured the MENA rights from Millennium Media for the fourth sequel of the $400m Has Fallen franchise, Night Has Fallen which is expected to be completed in 2022. Millennium Media is the home of a variety of worldwide box office hit franchises valued at $1.75bn.
Elaborating on the deals, Eagle Films CEO, Jamal Sannan commented: “During EFM, we acquired the Lionsgate 2022 line up with a production budget value over $180m. We also signed an $8.3m deal with STX studio for their upcoming blockbuster movie lineup, which includes a movie directed by Guy Richie, which is currently in production, and some of the scenes were shot recently in the Middle East. We also acquired the exclusive MENA rights for Miramax’s two upcoming megahit movies; Wrath of Man, which will be released on Eid Al Fitr in addition to another blockbuster movie, which is currently in production and expected to be completed in 2022.”
Eagle films boast a library of more than 2700 movies, which include an ensemble of renowned franchise movies, such as Escape Plan, The Hunger Games, The Expendables, Saw, Now You See Me, Has Fallen (Olympus, London, Angle), Mechanic, Twilight, Red, and Crank, to name a few. Every year, Eagle films distributes over 200 Hollywood movies of which 40% are released theatrically, holding 45% of the distribution market share in the MENA region.
